Having focus is an operational must have for any kind of work that must be done. Without it we tend to flail about without intensity, without direction, so it it becomes a whole lot of busy but not a very productive outcome. So then it all comes back to focus. For the Churches (the church is a people and not a place!) must have their focus correct or we wind up just doing a lot of busy work. As the great bear Bryant would say, "He's 2 yards and a lot of dust". Meaning he is moving a lot but not getting very far.
So now the question becomes what should the focus of true new testament churches be. That is an easy answer with a hard set of goals. We are to be focused on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The working out of that seems to be the harder issue. The Bible(you know God's inerrant, infallible and inspired word!) tells us that if we belong to Him by His blood being shed for our sins, then we are His "ambassadors" and if we are His "ambassadors" we have the obligation to be about the business of He who sent us. Here is the passage from the Word of God:
2Co 5:17-21 KJV 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
In order to keep our "focus" we are told to take the "word of reconciliation" because we have been reconciled to God by it, to all the world. Here is some more scripture for that.
Act 1:8 KJV But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Mat 28:18-20 KJV 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Today don’t lose focus on the really important work of taking the Gospel, through your Ambassadorship, to all of those that He has put in your path today. Their very life depends on it.
